Pop-Up Restaurant, Three Sisters Cafe

Today we opened our pop-up restaurant, The Three Sisters Cafe. We served three courses based on Native American cuisine. We served succotash, hominy, and berries with wild rice. Every student had a role and demonstrated what they learned. It was a great day!

Cooking to learn lesson

I asked a bunch of seniors in my study hall what they would like to learn before they leave high school and since they may be living away from home soon many said they would like to know how to use an oven and cook something. My objective was to teach them how to cook something nutritious, tasty, and simple to make on their own. It was a great lesson with them demonstrating following directions, working together, and cooking something. It is also a great video for me to use to teach my own students.

Seashell Project

Abby went to Ft. Myers Beach and brought back seashells. Abby then researched the names of the shells and presented what she learned to the class.

Marshmallow Science Experiment

My students learned that there are invisible waves in a microwave that "excite" water molecules. In food, these water molecules spin, causing them to heat up. When the water molecules heat up, the food also heats up. When food and water heat up, they expand.

Through this experiment, students found that a marshmallow will grow larger because bubbles of moist air in the marshmallows expand, making the whole marshmallow grow. Plus it was just super fun!

Proud of Alex for using his skills to build this complicated robot!
