As part of my Social Science lessons I have invited guest speakers to the classroom to introduce themselves to the students. It is a way to teach the students about the people that are around them and most important to them in their community. It is also a great way to bring people into the classroom and meet our students. Thus far we have met the School Nurse, Guidance Counselor, School Psychologist, All Principals at the High School, School Resource Officer, School Business Administrator, Superintendent of Schools, and the Board of Education President. We are now reaching out to the community and inviting people into the classroom. Yesterday we met the Elma Town Supervisor, Mr. Powers. It was a great experience for the students with Mr. Powers spending an hour in the classroom answering several questions from the students and even brought Elma Town Pencils as a gift for each student!
