After Mrs. Isenhart taught us about Inuksuk, Mrs. Jenson designed this amazing showcase for all of the students and staff in the building to learn from and enjoy.
Last Thursday we took a field trip to the Elma Town Hall. The visit was part of our Community Explorer lessons and to learn about the community around us. The students and staff had a great experience meeting the people that help the town run. Dear Supervisor Powers, Sheriff Higgins and staff of Elma Town Hall: Thank you for allowing our class from Iroquois High School to visit the Elma Town Hall. The students enjoyed going into your office and learning about town politics. We enjoyed singing Happy Birthday to the town building inspector. Meeting all the people that work in the Town Hall was interesting and fun. Most of all, the students appreciated going outside and looking at Sheriff Higgins’ police vehicle. It was a beautiful day to go outside and learn about the Memorial Park under the flagpoles. After the field trip, the students expressed that they were surprised by the size of the court room and the interesting items in the room. The students especially liked the flag that was once flown at the Capitol Building. We are grateful for your invitation to the Elma Town Hall. This field trip has exceeded our expectations of learning about the community around us. Thank you again, Mr. Mitri’s Class As part of this year's Cooking to Learn lessons, we wanted to focus on healthy meals that are simple to prepare and to enjoy. This year, we are lucky to have Nurse Brooks in our classroom. When we were brainstorming ideas for our first cooking lesson, Nurse Brooks suggested making a chicken salad. The students cleaned and cut all of the vegetables, made marinade for the chicken, helped cook the chicken, and finally ate the meal! The cooking lesson included OT, Math, ELA, and Life Skills. It was fun to just wear my outfit again too. Last year the Elma Town Supervisor, Mr. Powers, invited our class to the Elma Town Hall. We will be taking this trip Thursday, Oct. 16th from 9am-11am. This lesson is part of the Life Science curriculum and will give my students the opportunity to learn more about the community around them. We will visit all the offices and meet all the people that work at the Elma Town Hall.
