Here is a video showing the transformation of the caterpillars to butterflies. We tracked the transformation and learned about each stage and how long each stage took. The students had fun watching every stage to the day we set them free!

Guest Speaker lesson with Mr. Jennetti

5/19/2014

As part of my Social Science lessons I have invited guest speakers into my classroom to introduce themselves to the students. It is a way to teach the students about the people that are around them and most important to them in their community. It is also a great way to bring people into the classroom and meet our students. We are now reaching out to the community and inviting people into the classroom. Friday we met the East Aurora Golf Instructor, Mr. Reynold Jennetti. Mr. Jennetti is deaf and talked to the students about overcoming challenges in life. Mr. Jennetti was inspirational to the students and staff. Mr. Jennetti answered several questions from the students and even brought a golf ball and tees as a gift for each student! You can view Mr. Jennetti's website here.

Mr. Turtle!

5/15/2014

Yesterday my track team found this Red-Eared Slider turtle! We learned about the turtle today. We learned the turtle eats plants and insects. It was a lot of fun to have the turtle in the classroom. We will send him free this afternoon where he was found.

Grand Opening of Mitri's Market!

5/13/2014

Last week the students and staff launched Mitri's Market! We began by categorizing all the items and putting them on separate shelves. We plan to use the market to teach several things including; choosing nutritious food, comparing prices, making recipes, keeping a budget, sorting food by categories, and many other things.

A few weeks ago the Art Department asked us to contribute to the Art Show. We planned a lesson together that would include every students in my classroom. We decided on a design, planed what to buy, sorted by color, cooked in the classroom, decorated the cookies, and even tasted some! Only the broken ones of corse.

Last Day of With Miss. Thurn

5/4/2014

Friday was the last day that Buffalo State Art Therapy student Miss. Thurn was observing our class. I brought in supplies to make a rain stick similar to the one that Abby brought into the classroom from her vacation to Mexico.
