Today we had a great guest speaker in our classroom. Matthew Tichy is a musician who plays the trombone and is a student at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. Matthew is studying Music Education and Music Performance. He reached out to me because he wanted to visit our for a class he is taking at college. It was a great experience for all to hear him play the trombone and tell us all about the instrument. Thank you Mr. Tichy!
Toady our friend Gezabell the therapy dog came to our classroom to join us in a reading lesson. Our students read a story called "The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses." It is a great experience for the students and reading out loud is much easier when you are reading to a dog then other people!
Today we had a guest speaker, Kristie Edwards from Heritage Centers. It was a great experience for our class to learn about the opportunities after high school. Mrs. Edwards talk to our class about Vocational Services, Community Services, Case management, Residential Services, and Educational Programs. Not only was the information great for the students but it was great for our staff to know what things we can focus on to best prepare our students for life after high school!
So after talking to another special education teacher from Falconer I learned about a great business his class operates. They make and sell dog biscuits! With his inspiration, we have decided to start our own business. We began by choosing good healthy recipes. Then we went to the store to buy the ingredients and finally we cooked our first batch! The Biscuits turned out great and they include all natural ingredients!
