Today we added soil and planted flowers in the garden bed. The students added soil and peat moss in the garden bed and then mixed it all together. We were joined by Asia Streety, Hailey Burk, and Riley Riedel who worked together with our class to plant flower bulbs. We planted, Crocus, Daffodils, and Tulips.
Today the students used the plans and followed the directions to build a garden table. The students laid out all of the parts and pieces from the box into categories. Then followed the many steps from the directions to build a beautiful garden table that looks great in the courtyard. Mr. Beetow also lent a hand in building the garden table. It was a great project and the students worked cooperatively toward a common goal and it turned out great!
Today we had our new principal Dr. Ramirez in our classroom as a guest speaker! The students asked several questions and Dr. Ramirez shared many interesting facts about himself. Dr. Ramirez said one of his biggest priorities that students feel safe in school. Dr. Ramirez share with the class his love for sports and showed us a real NFL Buffalo Bills helmet he keeps in his office. He also talked about his family and his love for Barbecuing! We think we are going to have him show us his cooking skills sometime this year!
Today we had our new vice principal Mr. Perry in our classroom as a guest speaker. The students prepared several questions to ask Mr. Perry and then read their question to him. We learned several things about Mr. Perry including he is a car detailing enthusiast and would love to teach our students about the skills of detailing a car and how we can use the skill as a fundraiser!
We have started off the school year by getting right into our projects. Students cleaned the recycling containers and then we put them around the campus. Students also visited the superintendents office to collect several water bottles saved over the summer!
Yesterday former student Lynne Krawczyk visited our classroom and gave a great speech. Lynne graduated from our school last year and wanted to come in and talk about the transitioning to the real world after high school and the challenges it poses for people with disabilities. It was a wonderful speech and very informative. It was great to see Lynne and everyone in the class loved seeing her!
Today Mrs. Mather received this message from Lynne: Hi Mrs. Mather Please tell Mr. Mitri, "Thank you so much for letting me be your guest speaker, I was so happy and honored to do the speech." |
